The St. Louis Green Business Challenge  helps companies and organizations adopt sustainable business practices that can reduce environmental impact and help their bottom lines. In its first three years, the Challenge has attracted 125 companies and institutions, representing more than 105,000 employees across the bi-state metropolitan region.

The Challenge was developed by the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association to help improve regional sustainability and help grow our region's green economy.  Seminars, tours and web-based resources stimulate best practices among participants.  In addition, the Missouri Botanical Garden EarthWays Center consults with the Challenge teams to help them develop and implement their strategies.

The Challenge is open to St. Louis RCGA-member companies and runs from March 29 to October 29, 2013. For more information on joining the RCGA, click here for the membership packet.

During the year, seminars and events are held to help the company's green teams on their sustainability strategies and to share best practices and resources. Staff from the EarthWays Center, a division of the Missouri Botanical Garden, serve as consultants to the St. Louis Green Business Challenge and provide advice to the green teams and perform site visits.

Challenge teams complete a scorecard measuring their achievements in six areas:

  • Forming Company Green Teams
  • Increasing Energy Efficiency
  • Improving Indoor Environmental Quality
  • Reducing Waste
  • Conserving Water
  • Providing Clean Transportation Options

The 2013 Green Business Challenge scorecard is under construction, but the 2012 St. Louis Green Business Challenge can be downloaded here.  In addition, the 2012 Challenge contains  a High Performance Building Scorecard to encourage companies to pursue Energy Star, LEED, or Sustainable SITES certification.

The cost of the 2013 St. Louis Green Business is $495 for RCGA members. .

An award ceremony will be held  December  2013 to honor participants in the St. Louis Green Business Challenge
